Maureen Gallace finds inspiration in the modest edifices and rural environs of her native New England. She paints intimate landscapes featuring serene, unpeopled houses. Deceptively effortless in their appearance, Gallace’s paintings take shape through careful observation and decisive omission. By working within the self-imposed confines of rigorously limited scale and subject matter, she succeeds in isolating something universally familiar that brings a quietly mesmerizing insistence. Instantly recognizable as a work by Gallace, each individual painting is a unique rumination on stillness and structure. Widely exhibited in the States and Europe, the artist recently had a one-person show at Overduin and Kite in LA, was in the Whitney Biennial in 2010.
Gallace is represented by 303 Gallery in New York.
